Our Review/Thoughts

Being planar headphones, they need more power than any of the other phones I have mentioned to sound their best however, they are not too difficult to drive and the Objective2 Headphone Amp (with AC adapter and NiMH batteries installed) for $150 has plenty of power to make these headphones sing

Just FYI, I've also upgraded the HD 650's with a $250 cable with a decent increase in sound quality but I still pick the HFM's overall

In comparison to the Denons, these definitely have better pronunciation in every aspect, and by far are more superior when it comes to soundstage

X1 Headphone Preamp WM8805 PCM1793Volume wise, with the Denons, at 50% the sound is more than loud enough for me, actually as loud and in some cases louder than the HE-500 running at 100% which is still pretty loud

They are a fantastic all around headphone for nearly every genre of music

I finally made my own using Moon Audio Silver Dragon V2 Headphone Cable and I soldered it to the extra connectors that come with the HE-500 and used a Furutech stereo phono plug at the other end - sounds wonderful and the soft supple cables produce absolutely no microphonic noise no matter what they bang into
