Our Review/Thoughts

The whole band was more experienced and confident

[Interestingly there is reference to a twelfth track featuring Tony Bennett]

Recorded live at Caesar's Palace, this album captures the essence of both Buddy's inimitable playing and the sheer talent of his band - who he drives HARD! Although arguably past the big band heyday, personally I prefer it to 'Big Swing Face' and any drummer should add it to their collection with scant regard for the bargain price tag: it has me tapping along on my thighs even if I know there's barely a note Buddy plays that I could match

Eleven superb tracks! Arguably the best of the 1960's/70's Buddy Rich Big Band albums, this features typically full-on, exciting playing by the band

Every track is a cracker, but the highlights include the title track Mercy, Mercy, the thirteen minute suite Channel 1 Suite, Alfie, Ode To Billie Joe and Chelsea Bridge (featuring Art Pepper)

A fine entry in the pantheon of Buddy Rich recordings (and the accompanying notes helpfully provide a 1968 Buddy Rich Big band/ Pacific Jazz discography
