It comes with batteries (great) and all you need to do is to remove the plastic strip covering the batteries and away you go
To my mind this is an essential tool when barbecuing meat - you cannot be too careful these days
But of course this can be used for anything that needs accurate temperature readings, like the freezer for example
I used this for the first time this Sunday and my beef joint was cooked perfect medium, much more accurate than my old thermometer Such a useful tool, especially with the barbecue season upon us
I purchased this as we have already got a more traditional style food thermometer with a dial readout but I find it hard to read the numbers accurately making it a bit of a labour to use
I used it at the weekend as we had a pork joint
